Drainage works, Main Street
Gawcott
31/10/2023
Update provided by Buckinghamshire Council:
Regarding Main Street, Gawcott, we are proposing works which will assist in reducing the current issues with flooding at the junction of Main Street and New Inn Lane.
As part of the Capital Drainage Budget, we therefore propose the following measures which currently comprise of:
Localised repairs to the existing culvert at various locations along Main Street
The permanent diversion of a short section of the existing culvert from the junction of Main Street to New Inn Lane to the current location of the outfall into the watercourse.
Due to the potential length of time that will be required to implement the permanent diversion of this short length of culvert, it has been decided to split the proposals into two phases as follows:-
Phase 1
The provision of a temporary overflow pipe from the junction of Main Street and New Inn Lane to the outfall into the watercourse. This will provide some relief for residents affected by the flooding in this area until the permanent diversion of this short length of culvert can be carried out in Phase 2.
If it is feasible, the provision of a temporary pump located at the junction of New Inn Lane and Main Street to assist with the removal of as much excess surface water flooding as possible from this area.
Potential statutory utility diversionary works to enable the permanent diversion of the culvert in Phase 2 as below.
Phase 2
Localised repairs to the existing culvert at various locations along Main Street.
The permanent diversion of a short section of the existing culvert from the junction of Main Street to New Inn Lane to the current location of the outfall into the watercourse.
It is currently planned to commence Phase 1 of the works with the installation of the temporary overflow pipe during w/c 23rd October 2023 for approximately 2 weeks. Any required statutory utility diversionary works will follow on from this – dates tbc.
It is currently planned to commence Phase 2 of the works in early FY2024/2025.
